案例概述
The resurgence of patchwork takes on classic pieces from New Era, Birkenstock, and Vans proves that clothing brands are firmly in their fun era.

Thank god the era of “less is more” is on the way out. Quiet boring clothes that used to be considered interesting are just boring now, and in the sartorial power vacuum, we’re seeing brands have some fun. Proof? The resurgence of patchwork. Brands are materialmaxxing, layering panels of contrasting fabrics and patterns onto pieces for visual oomph. Patchworking is a relatively low-lift, high-reward way to signal a brand’s dedication to craftsmanship, so it tracks that a handful of brands have caught on to the appetite for a bit of visual flair — even applied to their most basic silhouettes. Just look at the new New Era cap in collaboration with Tokyo concept store THE STAND fool so good(s): there are few things more plain than a New Era hat, yet by contrasting panels of Alcantara synthetic microfiber, Brisbane Moss corduroy, and pure cashmere across its simple silhouette, it becomes a statement piece. Ditto BEAMS’ “Brown Patchwork” version of the uber-simple Birkenstock Boston, releasing in three shades of suede, and the granny shredder tapestry-style Vans slip-on that looks like a quilt for your feet. This wave of patchworked product is a welcome shift from a trend of making high-quality-looking wares that you can only tell are quality by getting up in the seams. Using sumptuous textiles or whisper-quiet tailoring techniques to elevate the ordinary into something extraordinary is nice, sure. But sometimes it’s nicer to wear your (patchworked) heart on your sleeve, signaling craft without need of a magnifying glass.
