The fashion crowd may have migrated from New York to London for the next chapter of the Spring 2027 shows, but fall was clearly the season at the top of showgoers’ minds. This autumnal sensibility manifested in the form of a back-to-school dressing street-style supertrend. Preppy classics — think: argyle cardigans and sweater vests, pleated skirts, plaid outerwear, knee socks, loafers, Mary Janes and rugby shirts — seemed to pop up outside every single show. Sure, there were plenty of expectedly prim, tailored ensembles typically associated with prep school uniforms. (Headmaster Charleston would approve.) But creative showgoers also got playful by subverting stereotypes and personalizing the back-to-school aesthetic with punk or boho elements. Combat boots, asymmetrical hemlines, wallet chains, Kangol hats, vivid color schemes, baseball caps and black leather came into rotation, lending just enough edge to keep all those Mary Janes and socks from looking overly twee.
